Healing Through Riding
The NSBA Foundation’s Heroes On Horses program is dedicated to honoring and empowering veterans through the transformative power of the horse. Designed for disabled veterans or active duty military who participate in PATH Intl. Equine Services for Heroes or have a Department of Veterans Affairs disability rating, Heroes On Horses provides a meaningful opportunity for veterans to ride, compete, and connect within the equestrian community.
Eligibility Criteria
Heroes On Horses is open to veterans participating in PATH Intl. Equine Services for Heroes programs or those with a Department of Veteran Affairs disability rating.
To participate:
Riders must submit the Rider Eligibility Form
PATH Intl. facilities must verify eligibility for therapeutic participants
Disabled Veterans not in therapeutic programs must submit a VA letter (blacking out sensitive info)
Horses do not need to be registered or owned by the rider or facility
Three Events—One Mission
Heroes On Horses offers veteran-focused events at three major horse shows across the country. Each celebration is unique—but all are united by the goal of honoring those who’ve served with camaraderie, connection, and competition.
Fort Worth, Texas

he NSBA Foundation and the American Paint Horse Association proudly partner to bring Heroes On Horses to the APHA World Championship Show in Fort Worth, Texas. Veterans are welcomed with an evening boot camp led by professional horsemen and a Welcome Dinner for riders, families, and support teams.
The following morning, veterans prepare their horses for the Parade of Heroes, held in the John Justin Arena. Spectators and exhibitors alike come together to honor those who have served. The event culminates in the Heroes On Horses Walk Trot Western Pleasure class, celebrating both achievement and service.
