NSBA Smart Points Program rewards youth riders for their participation in NSBA sanctioned events and promotes lifelong involvement in the equine industry.
How It Works
Youth riders can enroll in the program at any time by completing the Smart Points enrollment form and submitting a one-time $25 fee.
To earn Smart Points, the following requirements must be met:
- Youth must be a current NSBA member
- Must enroll in the Smart Points Program
- Must be rider either:
- A horse enrolled in the NSBA Incentive Fund, or
- A horse enrolled in Smart Points ($200 one-time; non-transferable) - The name on the Smart Points enrollment must match the NSBA membership exactly
Points are earned in Dual Approved or designated youth classes, including Novice Youth and Walk Trot divisions
How Funds Are Created
Funds are generated from sanction feeds collected from youth classes at NSBA events:
- 6% of each youth entry fee, or
- Minimum $3 per youth entry
The funds create the annual payout pool.
How To Enroll
Youth may enroll by downloading the form or enrolling online at nsba.com/smart-points-enrollment. Submit the form along with the $25 enrollment fee.
Horse eligibility:
- If your horse is enrolled in the Incentive Fund, transfer it into the current owner's name.
- If not enrolled in the Incentive Fund, a $200 one-time fee can be paid to enroll the horse in the Smart Points (non-transferable).
Receiving Your Payout
- Youth riders receive an annual earnings statement
- Once a participant ages out (after turning 18), NSBA will automatically mail their accumulated earnings the following year
- If total earnings exceed $600, a 1099 form will be issued for tax purposes
- Unclaimed payout are contributed to the NSBA Scholarship Fund annually.
